Statistical Analysis of Annual Household Water Consumption by Building Type
Abstract
Water consumption rate is a key factor in water supply and wastewater systems. Previous studies have identified socioeconomic, demographic, building, and behavioral factors influencing household water consumption. In this study, building type—classified as small, semi-luxury, luxury houses, and apartments—is the focus. Annual household water consumption data were collected from 275 households across six regions of Tripoli. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data distribution, while hypothesis testing was used to evaluate differences among building categories. The results revealed no significant differences in domestic water usage between small-house groups and semi-luxury-house groups, with p-values of 0.396 and 0.998, respectively. However, notable differences in water consumption were observed between small houses and luxury houses, as well as between small houses and apartments. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in the average water consumption between spring and annual measurements for small and semi-luxury houses. The study concludes that household water consumption is associated with building type and construction characteristics and can serve as a useful measure of domestic water use. It also suggests that the measurement of consumption could be conducted effectively during the warm season to approximate annual averages.
